Whispers From the Maple on the Hill

Life During the Depression and World War II in Southeast Missouri

Retail Price: $24.95

As the subtitle suggests, Whispers from the Maple on the Hill is a factual account stirred from the childhood memories of the author, Harvey D. Shell.
It could have easily been titled, “The Life and Times of Harvey D. Shell” or
“Harvey Shell: Looking Back On My Childhood”, but it is much more than that.
True, it is the story of Harvey’s parents, siblings and extended family and
friends in their life in and around Crowley’s Ridge and Old Dexter, Missouri
during the 1930s and ’40s, but it also takes a look back at a simpler time,
to a way of life not marked by television or technology, when pleasure could
be taken from the little things like enjoying the shade of a maple tree.

Mr. Shell has captured the essence of rural America and life on Crowley’s
Ridge during the Great Depression and World War II era. For some, this book
will bring back fond memories of your country upbringing and the way things
used to be. Others will be inspired by these tales of life, gaining
understanding that although times, indeed, may have changed, people can
remain the same.

Shell family or not, you will like this book!
